Unify Active Data and Archive Data in a Global Namespace

Connect AI and HPC workloads to exabyte-scale tape archives through a single global namespace

Versity and Hammerspace deliver a joint solution that combines Versity ScoutAM’s exabyte-scale archive management with the high-performance parallel global file system and automated data orchestration of the Hammerspace Data Platform. Active data remains on high-performance storage for AI and HPC workloads, while inactive data moves intelligently to a low-cost, power-efficient tape archive managed by ScoutAM. All data is unified in a single global namespace, so organizations can access, manage, and preserve data across the entire lifecycle, including files stored on tape, without migrating data.

Key Benefits

Tape Visibility Without Migration

Hammerspace assimilates metadata from ScoutAM while data on tape stays in place. Files stored on tape become visible and accessible through the global namespace without migrating data or recalling files from tape, so large tape archives function as an extension of the active data environment. When archived files are accessed, ScoutAM restores them from tape and Hammerspace presents them through the global file system, transparently to users and applications.

Optimized Cost and Power

Inactive data is archived to tape, which costs a fraction of disk or cloud storage and consumes nearly zero power at rest. Hammerspace Data Orchestration policies identify cold data and move it to ScoutAM automatically, reducing both storage spend and energy consumption without sacrificing accessibility.

Performance for AI and HPC

Active data stays on high-performance storage, with parallel file system access over NFS, SMB, and S3. ScoutAM delivers high-performance parallel data transfer across multiple nodes simultaneously, so archive and recall operations keep pace with demanding pipelines, and archived datasets remain reachable for training and analysis when needed.

Long-Term Data Protection

ScoutAM provides policy-driven multi-copy archiving with durable, recoverable storage formats. Open-source data formats and industry-standard protocols across the entire stack eliminate vendor lock-in and keep data accessible for as long as it must be preserved.

Seamless Integration With Zero Data Migration

ScoutAM supports in-place upgrades from legacy archive platforms, including HPE DMF, IBM HPSS, and Oracle HSM, eliminating data migration when modernizing existing archives. Combined with Hammerspace’s data-in-place assimilation, organizations can modernize a legacy archive and surface it in a global namespace, with zero migration at either layer.

Use Cases

High-Performance
Computing

Offload simulation results and checkpoint data to scalable archive storage, freeing parallel filesystem capacity while keeping research data accessible to and immediately retrieveable by downstream workflows.

AI Training Data and Model Archives

Preserve training datasets, checkpoints, and model versions on low-cost tape while keeping them visible and retrievable through the global namespace for the full AI lifecycle from experiemnt to production deployment.

Modernizing Existing Tape Archives

Bring decades of archived data into the AI era. ScoutAM reads legacy archive data in place — no migration required — while Hammerspace makes it globally visible and AI-accessible across the full namespace.
