Versity has added S3-over-RDMA support to its ScoutAM archive gateway, letting tape libraries feed GPUs directly for AI training workloads. By pairing the Versity Gateway with NVIDIA’s cuObject framework, data moves straight from tape into GPU memory over RDMA, bypassing the CPU. CEO Bruce Gilpin says the approach lets dozens of drives running in parallel stream tens of GBps “dirt cheap,” offering a low-cost alternative to NVMe as AI infrastructure costs climb.
